In 1999, Village member and artist Kay Smith was asked by the Ernest Hemingway Foundation in Oak Park to create an art exhibition to celebrate the Centennial of the author’s birth. In her talk, Kay will show key Hemingingway paintings, revealing the back stories of the personal Hemingway and the life experiences that became his autobiographical novels. Kay pokes into the corners of Hemingway’s critically conflicted nature to create a tapestry of adventure, disappointment, love lost, failure and his fatal self-violence.
