This month’s Tiny Theatre selection is a film with so much charm, it recently attracted Broadway to create a Tony winning musical of the same name. The Band’s Visit (2007) is a comedy-drama and International Co-Production between Israel, France and U.S. This simple story sees the Alexandria, Egypt Ceremonial Police Orchestra arrive in Full Military Regalia in Israel to play at the opening of the Arab Cultural Center. En route, they miss their bus and arrive in a small desolate Israeli village. The band settles at a restaurant where they manage to establish friendships among some of the town’s off beat residents. The film is so engaging that it won the “Un Certain Regard Prize” at the Cannes Film Festival of 2007. Watch the film anytime on Amazon Prime, then join a group discussion on Sunday, August 30 at 4:30 PM. RSVP to receive a link to join via Zoom!
Note: The previous selection for this month’s Tiny Theatre was Oh, Hello on Broadway (Netflix). Upon further consideration, the organizers decided it was not the best selection. They hope members and guests will find The Band’s Visit a choice worthy of discussion.
