The Do’s and Don’ts of Composting and Recycling

Hosted by the Village Green Team, Jonathan Scheffel, Manager of Healthy Soil Compost, will discuss composting for individuals and buildings. He started with two households per month in 2015 with a bicycle service. He now has 500 households and 80 commercial buildings with a fleet of cargo vans. Our Recycling speaker will be Mike Nowack. He was president of the Chicago Recycling Coalition for 6 years and has been a board member of the Illinois Recycling Association.

Mike Nowack has been the Chicago radio voice for gardening, the environment, and green living for 20 years. He now has the Mike Nowack Show on WCGO which airs on radio Sunday mornings from 9:00–11:00 AM on WCGO (1590 AM), and before that he has hosted shows on WGN and several other radio stations. In 2014 he published a book, Attack of the Killer Asparagus and Other Lessons Not Learned in the Garden. He is a former board member of the Illinois Recycling Association and was a founder and president of the Midwest Ecological Landscape Alliance.
