This isn’t the John Wayne classic, but is an adaptation of Charles Portis’ 1968 novel of the same name directed by the Coen brothers and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. After an outlaw named Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) murders her father, feisty 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) hires Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), a boozy, trigger-happy lawman, to help her find Chaney and avenge her father. The bickering duo are not alone in their quest, for a Texas Ranger named LaBoeuf (Matt Damon) is also tracking Chaney for reasons of his own. Join a group discussion led by Village member Mel Washburn via Zoom at 3:00 PM; the discussion will last 30 minutes. Please RSVP by 5 PM on Friday, April 10 to receive a link and instructions for joining the discussion.
