Saturday Afternoon at the Movies – Just Mercy (2019)

Saturday, June 20 @ 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Members & guests–free on multiple platforms. Registered attendees will receive a link to join the discussion via Zoom. To RSVP, please scroll down.

Watch the film any time before the discussion–or enjoy the discussion and be persuaded to view it after! A powerful and thought-provoking true story, Just Mercy follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Brie Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence. Join a group discussion led by Village member Mel Washburn via Zoom at 3:00 PM. Please RSVP by 5 PM on Friday, June 19 to receive a link and instructions for joining the discussion.
