When hard-charging New York newspaper editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant) discovers that his ex-wife, investigative reporter Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), has gotten engaged to milquetoast insurance agent Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), he unsuccessfully tries to lure her away from tame domestic life with a story about the impending execution of convicted murderer Earl Williams. But when Hildy discovers Williams may be innocent, her reporter instincts take over. His Girl Friday was #19 on American Film Institute’s 100 Years … 100 Laughs and was selected in 1993 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry of the Library of Congress as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. After viewing the film, join a group discussion led by Village member Mel Washburn via Zoom at 3:00 PM; the discussion will last 30 minutes. Please RSVP by 5 PM on Friday, April 24 to receive a link and instructions for joining the discussion.
