Prison Policy Initiative Executive Director Peter Wagner will, using some powerful visuals, explain the big picture on mass incarceration in the United States and the unique challenge poised by the pandemic. He’ll discuss both the limited steps that some correctional facilities have taken to reduce their populations in response to the coronavirus, and the long term opportunity to make those reforms bigger and permanent.
Peter Wagner is an attorney and the Executive Director of the Prison Policy Initiative. He co-founded the Prison Policy Initiative in 2001 in order to spark a national discussion about the negative side effects of mass incarceration. His report, Importing Constituents: Prisoners and Political Clout in New York, launched the national movement to end “prison gerrymandering” more than a decade ago.
While this event is hosted by the Men’s Group, it is open to all men, women, and guests of the Village.
