The Chicago Monuments Project consists of 41 of Chicago’s outdoor monuments that have been identified for a public discussion to grapple with the often unacknowledged – or forgotten – history associated with the City’s various municipal art collections. It provides a vehicle for a public dialogue that will elevate new ways to memorialize Chicago’s history more equitably and accurately. Following public feedback, an advisory committee of community leaders, artists, architects, scholars, curators, and city officials will make recommendations for new public art for commissions, the addition of signage or other modifications to some artworks, and possibly the removal of some artworks (click here to learn more about the project).
Seven of these statues are in or near Lincoln Park. Let’s take a bike ride together to see all of them and have some fun along the way. It will be a wonderful way to leave work a little early and enjoy the late afternoon in the park. Afterward we’ll ride to Ranalli’s on Lincoln Avenue for dinner, maybe a drink and discussion in their outdoor space.
- Reservations required for all events.
- The Village aims to match participating members by request to Village events when other members who are attending the event are able to provide transportation. When registering, please let the Village office know if you are able to drive or would like a ride to an event.
