Presented by the Village Men’s Group, mark your calendars for a discussion with leaders from Lincoln Park Community Services. Lincoln Park Community Services (formerly known as Lincoln Park Community Shelter) was founded in 1985 by four Lincoln Park churches who came together to provide seasonal, overnight shelter to a small group of neighbors experiencing homelessness. Today, 35 years later, LPCS has grown to a year-round, multi-facility organization with the capacity to house 120 individuals every night through interim housing shelters and permanent supportive housing. LPCS underwent major growth in 2019, opening a brand-new facility in the Old Town community and increasing interim housing capacity by 137%. The organization was just settling into its new space and service capacity when the organization underwent a leadership transition and, a month later, COVID-19 hit.
Our speakers, Lydia Murray (Interim Executive Director) and Mary Johnson (Chief Development and Strategy Officer), are new to their roles at LPCS – stepping in a few months ago in February of this year. Lydia stepped off of the LPCS Board and took a 3-month sabbatical from Deloitte consulting to become the Interim Executive Director with the goal of conducting and completing a search for the new LPCS Executive Director. COVID-19 changed everything. Lydia and Mary will share their story of leading LPCS through the simultaneous challenges of leadership transition and the pandemic. They will describe the measures and protocols put into place within their shelters that helped LPCS attain one of the lowest occurrence rates of COVID-19 among all shelters within the city; and how their volunteer and donor base stepped in to provide extraordinary support through a virtual model. This program is presented by the Village Men’s Group, but it is open to all men, women, and guests of the Village.
