Location: via Zoom

This ongoing Village discussion group meets online the first Wednesday of each month to discuss a selection of short readings from an anthology published by The Great Books Foundation. Although the group has been meeting for years, they are very welcoming to new members!

The Village’s Great Books Great Conversations program has been going strong for over 14 years! Our conversations are modeled after the shared inquiry of and uses short readings published by the Great Books Foundation.

All readings are from the anthology: “The Civically Engaged Reader” Published by the Great Books Foundation and can be ordered online from the Foundation store.

For July, the group will be reading:

  • “Earliest Impressions” by Jane Addams
  • “He Sits Down on the Floor of a School for the Retarded” by Alden Nowlan
  • “The Theory of Moral Sentiments” (Selection) by Adam Smith
  • “Democracy in America” (Selection) by Alexis de Tocquevillem
