When she began to research her family history, Village member Marsha Dowd found it was frustratingly spotty, with many small pieces of information and little context. By the time she became a member of Ancestry.com, her older family members were gone and any information they might have had was no longer accessible. Eight years and thousands of hours later, she has developed a richly textured and expansive genealogy of her family. The pursuit of answers, the solutions to mysteries, and the creation of the family tree has given her much fun and satisfaction. Join Marsha as she shows you how to start your genealogy journey using Ancestry.com. It is recommended that all attendees sign up for a two week free trial of Ancestry.com prior to the class so you may follow along in learning the site’s mechanics (do not sign up for the trial before November 3 or you will not be able to access it during the class).
Note: The Village Chicago is a membership organization, but a limited number of spots for this program are reserved for guests on a first come, first serve basis. If this event becomes over-subscribed, members will receive priority and non-members will be notified and reimbursed their full payment.
- Reservations required for all events.
- The Village aims to match participating members by request to Village events when other members who are attending the event are able to provide transportation. When registering, please let the Village office know if you are able to drive or would like a ride to an event.
