Caring for a loved one with dementia poses many challenges for families and care partners. People with dementia from conditions such as Alzheimer’s and related diseases have a progressive biological brain disorder that makes it more and more difficult for them to remember things, think clearly, communicate with others and take care of themselves.
Understanding dementia and how it affects the brain is important not only for every individual, but for those diagnosed with the disease, and their care partners. In this session, we will learn together about some of the risk factors and perceived causes of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Explore the most common warning signs of various types of dementia and differentiating between dementia symptoms and normal aging processes. We will discuss the common challenges and various approaches care partners can take to help their loved ones and themselves maintain quality of life.
